I think things that work, like a schedule, is something that could attract writers in the sense that is always beautiful something that works. It can be a metaphor that highlight how life normally (and probably luckily) is not as predictable. I didn't read <em>Metroland</em>, but in <em>Arthur and George</em> I think it helps to describe how absurd is the trial against a person who lives respecting and praising all the rules, including the small ones. So I think Barnes likes to use that trick cause it helps him to describe the distance between how things should be and how things are really are, more than a personal obsession for timetable. You may recall that I wrote about my great liking for Julian Barnes’s novel “Metroland” on this blog back in 2009, so that introduction, plus your current endorsement, have shortlisted “The Sense of an Ending” as an imminent bedside book for me. If I may use this space to discuss Julian Barnes a bit further, recently I heard an NPR program about autism, which noted that many autistic children are obsessed with train schedules, apparently because they take comfort from their detail and predictability. I was unaware of this aspect of autism before, but I see on Google that it’s common. This discovery in turn reminded me of “Metroland,” as protagonist Christopher is quite obsessed with the suburban London train schedules in his youth. The movie version of “Metroland” (wisely, I think) leaves out most of Chris’s train-schedule musings, as they’re not really pertinent to the central coming-of-age story, except as a kind of ironic aside that someone who knew all the metroland train schedules from early on would end up living there. I’m wondering now whether Barnes went through a similar train-schedules fixation in his own youth, which is how it got into his novel. I’d go into more detail, but the 7:30 is due NOW . . . Le he hechado un vistazo a fnac y amazon y he visto que no hay versión Ebook, es correcto? Creo que finalmente me haré con un kindle,aunque estoy viendo que los títulos en español escasean... También en ese tipo de comida hay falacias, como la "imposibilidad" de administrar medicamentos a una vaca lechera con una mastitis (porque si no te quitan el certificado de leche orgánica) me parece un tanto brutal, asimismo.
